5 Tips for Vaping During the Pandemic

With over 27 million cases in the United States and 106 million cases worldwide, the COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly been one of the most impactful events in our lifetime.

Naturally, an outbreak of this magnitude has had an enormous impact on people and industries throughout the world.

One of the groups of individuals that has been uniquely affected by the coronavirus are vapers.

As a lung-driven activity that produces large clouds of vapor particles and is often done in social gatherings, vaping has become a confusing and concerning topic.

Does vaping increase my risk of getting the coronavirus? Should I continue to vape during the coronavirus? How should I vape during the coronavirus?

These are just some of the many concerns that have arisen amongst vapers during the coronavirus outbreak.

To help shed some light on the situation, we decided to gather some information and put together a list of tips for vaping during the pandemic.

Does Vaping Increase the Risk of Getting the Coronavirus?

Does Vaping Increase Your Risk of Getting the Coronavirus

There is currently no evidence that confirms vaping can increase the risk of getting the coronavirus; however, medical professionals have stated that it is possible.

But then again, with such a contagious virus as COVID-19, any activity that involves leaving your home (or anyone else that lives with you leaving the home), or interacting with the world at all, can possibly increase your risk of getting the coronavirus.

Based on our opinion, and solely our opinion, the act of vaping doesn't necessarily increase your risk of getting the coronavirus; however, since vaping has shown to have a negative impact on the lungs, there's a good chance that it may weaken your body's ability to defend against the coronavirus.

That said, whether or not you should continue vaping during the pandemic should depend on why you vape in the first place.

If your sole purpose for vaping is for social purposes, you might want to consider taking a break until things lighten up.

However, if your like most vapers, and you depend on vaping for daily nicotine consumption or as an alternative to smoking cigarettes, it might not be feasible for you to quit vaping and that's understandable.

It's certainly not our choice to advise on this matter. While we are in full support of vaping, your health and life must be your top priority, so should definitely weigh out the pros and cons and make the best decision for your situation.

It might make sense to take a break for some, but for others, it may not be a realistic option. Each person's situation is different. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make, but we encourage you to make it with your health in mind.

If you do decide to continue vaping, there are certainly some things you can do to mitigate the risk of getting and/or spreading the coronavirus.

Below, we've provided a quick breakdown of 5 important tips to follow when vaping during the pandemic:

1. Avoid Vaping Indoors, in Groups, or in Public Settings

Many people associate vaping with smoking and will be offended if you vape near them or in a shared common space. It’s always best to be considerate of others when vaping. Therefore, it is best to avoid imposing your vape clouds on others when you can avoid doing so.

Furthermore, because vaping includes taking big tokes, breathing out in an exaggerated way, and similar behaviors, it is difficult not to expose others to the airborne particles that are in your breath when vaping.

Also, it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to vape indoors without violating a mask mandate. It should be kept in mind that masks should not be touched except when putting them on or taking them off. Therefore, vaping with a mask on is a sure way to contaminate the mask.

Before you begin vaping, it is best to be in an area where masks are not required. Otherwise, you will contaminate the mask with frequent touching. In such a situation, you’re likely to completely or partially remove your mask while vaping which might lead to an unpleasant confrontation.

2. Maintain a Distance of 6 Feet or More When Vaping (and possibly even more since the virus may be able to travel further in vapor clouds)

The general rule of six feet of social distance should be adhered to any time you are around strangers or in a crowd in public for as long as this pandemic continues. This goes doubly for vaping due to the fact that vape clouds contain viscous droplets. These droplets can envelop the virus, protecting it and allowing it to travel further through the air than it might otherwise do.

If at all possible, it is best not to vape around others who do not or are not vaping at this time.

3. Avoid Placing Your Device and E-Liquids on Public Surfaces

Any device that you place in your mouth, and especially one that you draw air through should not be left or set down anyplace where a stranger might contaminate them. Avoid placing your vape machine down on any sir face that a lot of people will or have come into contact with.

Do not share your vape machine with anyone that you do not know well. Do not share your vape machine with anyone who may be infected. Likewise, if you believe you may be carrying the virus, do not let anyone use your vape device.

If you believe the hygienic integrity of your vape machine has been compromised while using it in public, clean it thoroughly, or replace your mouthpiece and the head of your machine.

4. Clean Your Device Regularly

Keeping your vape machine clean and sanitary is always important. Even outside of COVID-19 concerns, the mouthpiece, tank, and head of your vape device are relatively accommodating to mold, bacteria, and other pathogens. So it’s always a good idea to clean it at least once a week under normal circumstances.

During this pandemic, you should clean your device daily or at least after each time you use it within breathing range of others.

5. Wear a Mask When Visiting Your Local Vape Shop

Just like any other store that wants patrons to wear a mask, a vape shop is a private property. That means you need to follow their rules while in their shop just as you respect the rules of the house when visiting a friend. What’s more, local authorities may have put mandates in place. That means your local vape shop owner might get fined if they don’t enforce mask rules. So even if you’re not afraid of the virus, be kind to your local vape shop vendor and follow their mask rules.

Of course, even if your local vape shop doesn’t require it, it is a good idea to mask-up in vape shops. This is because contaminated vape particles are heavier and can travel farther than normal breath particles.
